Watch: Tina Fey Nails Philly Accent on SNL

Over the weekend, Upper Darby’s Tina Fey and her comic partner-in-crime Amy Poehler hosted Saturday Night Live, the last episode before the new year. The funny ladies did nearly everything we hoped they’d do. Poehler brought back her Hillary Clinton impersonation, Tina Fey did Sarah Palin and, in one hilarious segment, even let loose her Philly accent.

In a segment called “Bronx Beat” two Bronx housewives, played by Poehler and Maya Rudolph, host a talk show it what appears to be their living room. After a few funny jokes about Star Wars (wookies, in particular) and husband farts, they bring out their guest for the evening: Fey as Cousin Karen from Philly.

The joke here, of course, is all the differences between the Philly and Bronx accents. The Bronx housewives get a kick out of the way Karen sounds. “Oh my God, Karen. I forgot what a beautiful accent you have. You sound fancy,” says Rudolph’s housewife.

They ask her to “say things in Philly.” Karen treats them to all the good ones: “wooder” and something about going “down the Shore” and “youse.”

Then she tells them a story: “My brother Dave and his friend Dave and their other friend Dave saw a guy beat a Salvation Army Santa with an old car battery in the Wawa parking lot. Philly’s a war zone.”

There’s a lot more, but it’s funnier if you watch and listen for yourself. Check out the video above.
