Bill Cosby Mural to Be Erased in North Philly
Mural Arts announced this week that its plans to erase a Bill Cosby mural in North Philadelphia have been prioritized after news that the comedian admitted in 2005 to buying Quaaludes with the intent to give them to women he wanted to have sex with.
“The Mural Arts Program had planned to remove the mural, near Indiana Avenue, for months,” writes the Inquirer, “because it was painted on a wall that is now in poor shape. But the recent public scrutiny surrounding Cosby has accelerated those plans.”
The mural in question is a 2008 Father’s Day painting that depicts him prominently alongside civil rights heavyweights Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. It’s located under a bridge at North Broad near Indiana Street.
This hasn’t been a good week for Cosby. On Monday, former supporter Jill Scott proclaimed on Twitter that she was wrong to ever stand up for him; on Tuesday, Disney decided to remove a statue of Cosby at its Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida; and Wednesday, news broke that he was dumped by his agent, leaving him without representation in Hollywood.
