Summer’s dreamy Pennsylvania Horticultural Society pop-up beer garden is back for a three-day President’s Day weekend romp. The vacant lot on South Broad Street will be cleared out and blazing with heated tents (thank God!), suds from Yards Brewing Company, nibbles and an LED light forest by Brian Hoffman Design. UPenn’s Mask and Wig club is in the midst of its 126th theatrical production (!) This year’s offering is Wishful Sinking, which follows protagonist Bryan as he boards a cruise ship for a honeymoon with his new wife Kym. In true Mask and Wig fashion, things get a little nutty from there, when the captain of the ship decides to take his life off cruise control and pursue his dream of becoming a pirate.” Mask and Wig is the nation’s oldest all-male collegiate comedy troupe, which, yes, means that all the roles are played by men — even the sweet new bride Kym. I would never recommend running a marathon in this ridiculous weather, but you should definitely make some time to head to South Philly tomorrow to watch other people do it — in their underwear. The 1.5-mile Cupid’s Undie Run takes off in the early afternoon and culminates with post-race drinking and dancing shenanigans. The run is a benefit for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, so you might want to consider sponsoring a team before heading over to laugh at them. More info on that can be found here. In its 2014 Winter Series, the dancers at BalletX present works by a handful of award-winning choreographers, including the world premieres of Joshua L. Peugh’s “Slump” and James Gregg’s “L-O-V-E.” The opening-night performance on Wednesday includes a chat with the artists. The Philadelphia Zoo will be hosting Wild at Heart. The event is family friendly, and offers a variety of love-themed events, and a tour that explores the romantic tricks and tactics used by various animals.
