South Bowl Is Adding a “Yard” With Batting Cages, a Bocce Court, and More
The Yard at South Bowl is slated to open this spring.
You probably know of South Bowl as a nicer-than-average bowling alley with a fancier-than-average menu (seriously — how many bowling alleys do you know with shaved Brussels sprouts salads and spicy shrimp ceviche on the menu?). South Bowl’s offerings — and, fine, the fact that it has lots of parking — won it a Best of Philly in 2016. And now, it’s about to get even better.
Last week, the bowling alley announced the launch of The Yard at South Bowl — an “ultimate backyard concept” that will bring all kinds of outdoor games and family-friendly fun to the bowling alley. Included in the plans are the addition of batting cages, a bocce court, shuffleboard, horseshoes, billiards, swings, outdoor lounge areas, and other yard games. Plus, a shipping container will house a new bar, along with an arcade.
The batting cages and other games are currently under construction — and the bowling alley shared a sneak peek at the progress on their Instagram last week. The additions are slated to be completed this spring, just in time to host all of your group outings, happy hours, and game nights this summer.

In the meantime, South Bowl has shared a few renderings of the plans for The Yard — which, honestly, looks like a pretty nice escape from the concrete jungle. Considering that most of us city-dwellers are lucky if we can call a small patch of cement our “backyard,” we can only imagine this big, well-landscaped, yard-game-filled oasis will be popular — especially since this yard comes with its own bartender.
South Bowl is located at 19 East Oregon Avenue in South Philly.
