Music: 7 Shows to See in the Next 7 Days
DJ Jon Solomon, Lunacy and a double shot of Lil Uzi Vert.
Lunacy @ Kung Fu Necktie | Wednesday, December 20
There’s something nerve-wracking about the way this Philly band makes music. “Industrial” doesn’t cover it — this music is sometimes throbs like a headache but there are lots of gorgeous, cinematic, shoegazy parts too. And strange noises abound. Listen to the song below and tell me, is that the sound of a ghost rattling a fresh sheet of tin foil? Cause that’s what it sounds like.
Pete Donnelly Trio @ Boot & Saddle | Wednesday, December 20
Pete Donnelly’s an interesting dude. The Philly/NJ singer and songwriter played with the Figgs, is an “honorary member” of NRBQ, and recorded an entire album in Portuguese. His usual solo stuff is cool too — lots of low-key rock songs with catchy choruses.

Post War Dream @ Boot & Saddle | Thursday, December 21
How about something earthy and upbeat? This Philly rock/folk fourpiece released a full length back in April called We’ll Be Just Fine, and it’s worth your time.
One Tree Holiday: Tyler Hilton & Kate Voegele @ World Café Live | Thursday, December 21
Fans of the CW hit drama One Tree Hill will dig this evening of singer-songwriter-actors. Tyler Hilton played Chris Keller (and Elvis Presley in Walk The Line). Kate Voegele played Mia Catalano. This tour has them dueting on originals and covers.

Lil Uzi Vert @ The Liacouras Center | Friday, December 22
Lil Uzi Vert @ NOTO | Saturday, December 23
The “emo hip-hop” artist from Philly released his debut record Luv Is Rage 2 in August, scoring a Grammy nom and throngs of young fans. Expect a high-energy shows for the hometown crowds, be it at the giant Liacouras Center or the intimate nightclub NOTO.
DJ Jon Solomon’s 25-Hour Holiday Radio Show @ WPRB | December 24-December 25
Every Christmas my pal Jon Solomon takes to the air on Princeton’s WPRB for a full-day-plus radio show, playing only Christmas/holiday songs. But don’t expect the usual fare; only the strangest, coolest, most interesting songs make the cut. Expect some Wailers, maybe a few Misfits parodies, perhaps an epic story about a Christmas Snail — who knows? Requests are welcome. Here’s a favorite from last year. I can’t believe it’s been a year.
Miles Chancellor @ Voltage | Tuesday, December 26
How about a little chill hip-hop for the day after Christmas?
