Six Flags Great Adventure Announces New Roller Coaster: Total Mayhem 4D

This week, the Six Flags franchise rolled out a host of new rides and attractions that will come to its parks across the United States in 2016. There are 14 newbies in total—from a Joker-themed coaster in San Francisco to a Splashwater Falls at Six Flags America in the Baltimore/D.C. area. One of the more menacing rides, coincidentally, is coming to our neck of the woods: the Total Mayhem 4D at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.

The park says this 14th coaster on their site is “the most unique and intense attraction in its history,” with magnetic technology and swiveling vehicles that promise a more modernized coaster experience.

“On this new unbelievable adventure, you’ll soar outside the confines of the track in wing cars facing other riders,” reads a release. “You’ll take an elevator-style lift straight up 120 feet in the air. When you reach the top, you’ll begin to tumble head-over-heels, free-falling down two beyond-90-degree raven drops and experiencing at least six weightless flips.”

Total Mayhem is situated in the lakefront section of the park. The track is described as a “floating and twisting I-box track frame.”  It peaks at 120 feet tall and features a 90-degree heel that riders ascend elevator style via a chain-link lift in one of five 4-D wing vehicles that seat 8 per each. Riders are situated so that they face each other as they tumble and glide along the track.

Sounds insane. It’s expected to open spring of 2016. Check out a video of the coaster below.
