There are few more-satisfying ways to shake off a long work day than heading to your favorite watering hole at closing time for a drink or three. Unless, of course, you’re a dog and you have to wait that much longer for your owner to get home to fill your bowl with kibble. Starting tonight, you can both enjoy the happy hour experience at Dilworth Park in a new weekly series called “Yappy Hour.”

Tonight at 5 pm, at the southern end of the park, there will be space carved out for dogs and their owners to enjoy some treats under the shadow of City Hall. For the owners, Brûlée Catering will serve $5 sangria, $4 wine, and light bites and beer for $3. For the pups, dog snacks and the chance to play with other furry friends in Dilworth Park’s newly installed dog-walking areas. The event is being held in conjunction with the debut of these new “pooch patches,” which are made with finely ground gravel and equipped with all the dog-waste bags you’ll need. You’ll find them located along the perimeter of the park, near the northwest, west and southwest entrances (all noted in the map below.)

Yappy Hour begins at 5 pm at the southern end of the park on Wednesday evenings now through September 2nd. Non-pet owners are welcome to attend, too. Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society will be on site with adoptable dogs, so, who knows, you just might walk away with a companion to bring to the next one.
