LISTEN: Dr. Dog Writes a Song for the Phillie Phanatic
West Grove, Pennsylvania rock band Dr. Dog has written a song just for the Phillie Phanatic. Aptly titled “The Phanatic Song,” it debuted last night on XPN, when the Phanatic was doing a guest spot during host Dan Reed’s Top 5 at 5 spot.
According to XPN, the song was inspired after the Phanatic visited Dr. Dog in their studio to film a video for his charity, Phanatic About Reading, which encourages kids to read by asking them to crack open a book for at least 15 minutes a day. The Phanatic also recorded a video for “The Phanatic Song” that will appear on a DVD that will be given to kids for free on September 13th during a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.
“The Phanatic Song” almost sounds like a theme song to The Phanatic Show. It’s playful and upbeat with a rock edge that’ll have kids clapping and getting all excited about that big, ugly green monster. There’s even a little “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” mixed in in the middle. Give it a listen here.
