Jaden Smith, the prom dress-wearing son of Philly’s Will Smith, has been cast in Baz Luhrmann‘s Netflix drama The Get Down, Deadline reports.

The music-driven series is set in New York City in the 1970s and concerns five teenagers living in the streets. Smith will play the recurring role of Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling, who is described as “a psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer raised in the South Bronx.”

To prepare for the role, Smith has been taking graffiti lessons from legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink aka Sandra Fabara, who exhibited her first solo show, “Femmes-Fatales,” at Philly’s Moore College of Art and Design in the 1980s.

The Get Down, a 13-episode series, will debut on Netflix in 2016.
