8 Places to Watch the Oscars Live in Philly
This Sunday, February 22nd, Philadelphia is rolling out the red carpet for those of us not fortunate enough to attend the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. We’ve rounded up several local venues hosting Oscar-viewing parties so your experience watching the ceremony on Eastern Standard Time feels at least somewhat like the real thing.
Shake Shack
Ellen DeGeneres is a tough act to follow. Will this year’s host, Neil Patrick Harris, be able to draw in as many viewers as Ellen or will his performance resemble a sad Imitation Games? Come judge for yourself at the Shake Shack. While you guzzle down a signature milkshake and enjoy complimentary fries be sure to fill out the brackets to predict the night’s big winners. Awards for the most accurate predictions will include a free dinner and movie. January 22nd, 7:30pm, free, various Shake Shack locations.
Philadelphia Film Society
Prepare for a Wild night at the Roxy Theater, where Hollywood’s premier film event of the year will be celebrated on Sansom Street. Philadelphia Film Society is hosting a live simulcast in honor of 2014’s most notable films. Tell your friends to come dressed to the nines and make sure to get to the theater in time for cocktail hour. January 22nd, 6:30pm – 11pm, $65-$120, PFS Roxy Theater, 2021 Sansom Street.
Square 1682
Square 1682 is gearing up for its second annual Oscar night party with award-inspired cocktails, complimentary truffle popcorn and movie trivia during commercial breaks. Trivia prizes include a dinner for two at Square 1682, a number of spa treatments at The Rittenhouse Spa and Club and a free one-night stay at Hotel Palomar. The amount of glamorous options to choose from may give you Whiplash (which incidentally is the name of one of their cocktails). January 22nd, 7:30pm, Square 1682, 121 South 17th Street.
Ambler Theater
The Ambler Theater is hosting a gala evening complete with catered food and drinks. The photo booth and raffle prizes will help to bring you back to Boyhood, while still keeping it PG-13 for the champagne toast. January 22nd, 6:30pm, $65-$75, Ambler Theater, 108 East Butler Avenue, Ambler.
Philly Inquirer Party
The Daily News, The Inquirer and Philly.com are joining forces to bring you a live screening of the Academy Awards at the Hard Rock Café on 12th and Market streets. Volunteers of America @ Lowes Philadelphia Hotel
Get ready to paint the town at the Volunteers of America’s 16th annual Red Carpet Gala. It is a Hollywood simulation like you’ve never seen before. Meet local celebrities and walk the red carpet in a field of paparazzi. The 87th Academy Awards will be playing on the big screens while you partake in a silent auction that will test your Inherent Vice. January 22nd, 7pm, $250 – $2000, Loews Hotel, 1200 Market Street.
