Phylicia Rashad to Star in New Rocky Sequel, Creed

Showbiz 411, the blog that caught flack this for misquoting Phylicia Rashad and her defense of Bill Cosby, is back with some new news about The Cosby Show actress: She’s going to play Apollo Creed’s mother in the upcoming Rocky spinoff, Creed.

As our own Victor Fiorillo reported earlier, the film “is about Apollo Creed’s grandson, Adonis (played by Michael B. Jordan), who wants to step into the ring to honor the legacy of Apollo (who died in Rocky IV); a reluctant Rocky eventually agrees to manage and train him.”

The name of Rashad’s character has yet to be released, but expect something like Grandmother Creed. Dear White People star Tessa Thompson will also star in the film.

Stallone and crew are expected to be filming in Philadelphia this month, so keep your eyes peeled.
