Jay Z, Kanye West Sued Over “Made in America” Track
Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean are being sued over a song they collaborated on that got it’s name from Jay Z’s Philly-derived Labor Day weekend Made in America Festival. The song in question is, you guessed it, “Made in America.” More from AV Club:
New York musician Joel McDonald is suing the three artists, claiming they plagiarized the track “Made In America” for the Watch The Throne record. McDonald says he wrote and recorded a track of the same name—and while that’s certainly not unique, there is at least a minute degree of similarity between the two tracks.
This is the second lawsuit Misters Z and West have faced regarding Watch The Throne. The two were previously sued by soul singer Syl Johnson, who claimed his vocals were illegally sampled on “The Joy.” The two parties settled out of court.
Give a listen to both tracks below. Do you hear any similarities?
