Kimmel Center to Host a Late-Night Rager for Summer Solstice
Saturday, June 21st, is the Summer Solstice (aka the longest day of the year), and the Kimmel Center is celebrating with a late-night party featuring live music in a variety of genres, games, and spectacle underneath its iconic glass barrel rooftop.
The event, which runs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., takes full advantage of the entire Kimmel Center facility—guests can enjoy the Solstice Lounge in the Plaza, featuring the dizzying beats of Philadelphia’s DJ Mr. Best while kicking back in a hammock or enjoying a round of foosball, skeeball, or ping pong. When you work up an appetite and thirst, light bites and cocktails from Chef Jose Garces will be available throughout the Plaza and at the Garces Beer Garden.
Jazz fans will be able to enjoy performances from a series of Kimmel Center residency artists in an intimate lounge located at the Innovation Studio. Those in attendance can expect to hear the sweet sounds of Pablo Batista and The Mambo Syndicate, Josh Lawrence and The Fresh Cut Orchestra and Bobby Zankel, Raphael Xavier, and Francois Zayas.

If indie music is more your style, head to the Verizon Hall for Brooklyn-based duo Beverly, coming to town to promote their first album, Careers, which drops July 1st. Following Beverly are performances by San Fermin, and headliner Real Estate.
To top it off, Philly’s La Compagnie du Transe Express, the arial acrobatics troupe who wowed the city in 2011 with their PIFA performance high above Broad Street, returns to the Kimmel for another throat-clutching stint.
