Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show
The annual Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show returns for its 83rd year this weekend, June 6-8. This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday you can soak up some summer sun while perusing the artwork of more than 140 skilled artists who will set up a vast array of mediums along the perimeter of the park. The center of the square will also feature the original artwork of students from several regional schools, available for purchase. June 6th & 7th 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., June 8th 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Rittenhouse Square, 18th and Walnut Streets.
The Visit Philly Beer Garden Series
Not like we needed one, but Visit Philly is giving us a reason to kick off our weekend by indulging in cold craft beers and sunshine all summer long, with its new weekly happy hour series. The series will feature rotating beer gardens throughout the city every Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. They'll celebrate the happiest hour beginning this Friday, June 6th, with Morgan's Pier as the first destination. Guests will enjoy food and beer specials, as well as fun and games hosted by the Visit Philly crew. A list of the participating beer gardens is available here. Philadelphia International Children's Film Festival
Grab the kids and come celebrate the opening night of Philadelphia International Children's Film Festival, featuring the sci-fi adventure Earth to Echo. Friday's screening will feature a Q&A with producer Andrew Panay and a photo-op with the star of the film, Astro. The festival will span Friday through Sunday, with a variety of feature films and shorts to catch throughout the weekend. Tickets, along with a schedule and full list of films, can be found here. The Betsy Ross House Alfresco Movie Screenings
The Betsy Ross House will celebrate the balmy summer evenings with outdoor movie screenings of classic horror films every First Friday until October 3rd (excluding Friday, July 4th). This Friday, June 6th, guests are invited to bring their own beer, wine, or cocktails and enjoy a screening of Attack of the Crab Monsters, a 1957 sci-fi horror flick. Fete Day Festival
About half the houses on Elfreth’s Alley in Old City, the nation’s oldest continuously occupied residential street, are trinities built between 1703 and 1836.
Radio 104.5 Summer Block Party
The shenanigans at Radio 104.5's last bash isn't stopping them from hosting some of alternative rocks' current big names this weekend at Festival Pier. The outdoor show will feature sets from The Head and The Heart (pictured), Bear Hands, KONGOS, and Alright Junior. If you can make it past the throngs of rowdy teens, a free concert along the water isn't a shabby way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Tickets, which can be printed here, are required but are free of charge. June 7th, 3:45 p.m., Festival Pier, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
The Schuylkill Shindig
This Saturday evening you can party for a good cause under the Walnut Street Bridge, in celebration of Schuylkill Banks, the riverfront destination complete with parks, docks, greenways, and more. The fundraiser party will include food from fan-favorite trucks Pitruco Pizza and Farm Truck, desserts from Shake Shack and Pure sweets, as well as beer and wine. DJ Eddie Tully will provide the tunes, and party goers are invited to have their photo taken with friends inside the on-site photo booth, as well as participate in an auction featuring pieces from local artists. Tickets are available online, with all proceeds donated toward the maintenance of Schuylkill Banks. June 7th, 6-9 p.m., $60 for regular tickets or $75 for VIP, Schuylkill Banks under the Walnut Street Bridge.
Blogologues
The sketch comedy project, Blogologues, is bringing their most recent show: Blogologues: Dat A.S.S. (Annual Sex Show!) to Philly. Watch the actors literally perform the internet, covering topics that probably shouldn't be discussed in public venues, like those embarrassing texts from last night and awkward Tinder hookups. Get your LOL on at their first performance this Saturday night. Tickets are available here. June 7th, 8 p.m., Studio X of Theatre Exile, 1340 S. 13th Street.
Clover Market
The seasonal open-air market, Clover Market, is returning to Chestnut Hill this Sunday with over 100 vendors featuring vintage clothing and jewelry, antiques and collectibles for the home, original art, and handmade items. Feel free to work up your appetite as you peruse goods from vendor to vendor - the market has plenty of tasty food on-site, from various popular food trucks, including Mac Mart Cart. Named one of the Best Vintage Markets by Flea Market Style Magazine, this upscale market experience is a must for thrifters and high-end shoppers alike. A full list of vendors is available here. The Talkback by The Berserker Residents
Join Philly theater group The Berserker Residents for a reworking of their 2013 Fringe Festival hit, The Talkback. FringeArts is hosting the residents for a series of three free Sunday evening performances of the comedic work before they are sent off to perform at the largest arts festival in the world, the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The local theater ensemble, which consists of artists Justin Jain, David Johnson, and Bradley K. Wrenn, will kick off the series this Sunday evening. Laughter is sure to ensue.
