WATCH: Trailer for John du Pont Film Foxcatcher
Foxcatcher — a film chronicling Philadelphia mutli-millionaire and convicted murderer John du Pont — got screening treatment this week at the Cannes Film Festival. More from A.V. Club:
This new teaser for Foxcatcher offers the first glimpse at a film eight years in the making. During that time, director Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Capote) struggled to find financing for his moody sports film. Early on, he signed a then-relatively-unknown Channing Tatum; Steve Carell joined shortly after that. Both stars stuck with the project during its long gestation period.
The film follows the true story of paranoid schizophrenic millionaire John du Pont (Carell), who sponsored a training facility for Olympic wrestlers. Despite having no prior wrestling knowledge, he helped coach brothers Mark Schultz (Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) to 1984 Olympic Gold Medals and later World Championships. The story took a turn for the horrific, as du Pont’s paranoia manifested itself in murder.
