The following players are inactive for the Eagles’ Monday night matchup against the Saints: Trent Edwards, Mardy Gilyard, Darryl Tapp, Danny Watkins, Nate Menkin, Vinny Curry and Nate Allen.
Nate Allen did not practice again on Saturday because of a hamstring strain and is officially listed as questionable for Monday night’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Andy Reid said Allen will travel with the team and be a game-time decision.
If he can’t go, David Sims will get the start. The Eagles acquired Sims from the Browns before the season. He’s never played a defensive snap in the NFL and could be faced with trying to deal with Drew Brees and the Saints’ offense in his first action.
Andy Reid made it sound today like Danny Watkins is unlikely to be ready Monday night, meaning rookie Dennis Kelly should expect to get his second straight start at right guard.
The possibility exists that Kelly could play himself into the starting job. Watkins was inconsistent through the first seven games, and Reid was asked if the former first-round pick will definitely get his job back once he’s healthy.
During the bye week, Andy Reid said multiple times that he was evaluating everything.
On defense, that meant changing coordinators. But considering Marty Mornhinweg kept play-calling duties and Michael Vick remained the starting quarterback, what would it mean offensively?
That was one of the questions going into Sunday’s game. And while the offense only produced 17 points, Reid and Mornhinweg actually some drastic changes.
Here’s a look at those changes, along with a player-by-player breakdown of the offensive line, including rookie Dennis Kelly
This will not play well with the large portion of the fan base that was not on board with drafting a 26-year-old guard to begin with.
Andy Reid revealed Friday that Danny Watkins‘ ankle, the one that will likely sideline him for Sunday’s pivotal game against Atlanta, is “chronic.”
“Danny has kind of a chronic ankle and he has had it for years,” said Reid after Friday’s practice.

Danny Watkins missed his second straight practice Friday with an ankle injury. It is quite possible that the right guard will be sidelined for Sunday’s game against the Falcons.
Rookie Dennis Kelly is expected to fill the void if Watkins can’t go. Kelly, a fifth-round pick out of Purdue, played exclusively at tackle in college. He worked in at guard during training camp and has gotten some reps at practice, but is inexperienced at the position.
Danny Watkins missed practice with an ankle injury Thursday. The second-year guard was on the injury report Wednesday as well, but was listed as a full participant.
Rookie Dennis Kelly got the reps at right guard in Watkins’ absence. The 6-8 rookie played tackle exclusively at Purdue. His only experience at guard has come during training camp and at practice.
The mood was light Wednesday afternoon as a group of reporters surrounded Danny Watkins’ locker before practice.
Evan Mathis even got his iPhone out and started mockingly recording his teammate’s comments.
On Monday, Watkins declined to chat, creating a bit of a stir in the process.
“I think that got a little bit blown up,” he said today. “I was asked a question, and you know what? I was a little disappointed with just the way myself and the team had been playing. I just didn’t really have anything to say and said, ‘I think it’s best if I don’t say anything today.'”
A day after the loss to the Lions, a fed-up Andy Reid had some harsh words for his offense.
“The last two drives offensively were pathetic. They were pathetic from a coaching standpoint and they were pathetic from a players’ standpoint,” he said.
What drove Reid to this level of irritation? We took a look at the coaches tape to find out.
The area where the Eagles are most likely to shake up personnel during the bye week is the offensive line.
The problem? They don’t have a lot of options. We’ll see if they sign someone or even make a trade. But given the way the roster currently stands, let’s take a look at all five spots to see where things could be headed in the final 10 games.
