Here’s the latest coaching buzz around the NFL, including notes on Oregon’s Chip Kelly and Penn State’s Bill O’Brien.
Andy Reid will get another reminder Monday of just how good he used to have it.
For the fourth time this season, he will square off against a member of his original coaching staff. First it was Pat Shurmur and Brad Childress in Cleveland, followed by John Harbaugh — the former special teams guru who is now head coach of the Ravens. The Eagles got licked by Steve Spagnuolo and the Saints on November 5. Next up, Ron Rivera and the Panthers.
Yes, Eagles fans have been calling for heads, but this probably isn’t the one they meant. The team on Tuesday fired Rob Zeigler, their vice […]
From Jay Gruden to Andy Reid to Nick Foles, here’s a roundup of what the national media are saying about the Eagles this week.
Despite cries for answers, Jeffrey Lurie does not intend to speak this week, according to a team official.
There are no immediate plans to fire Andy Reid in-season, and the coach said on Monday that he will not step down before the year is out.
For the next six weeks, the fan base will likely be asked to grin and bear it. Relief will not come in the form of change or explanation. Not yet.
Two of the Eagles’ biggest stars are concussed. Just another sign of the times.
Andy Reid gave an update on the health of LeSean McCoy, who was injured in the waning moments of the blowout loss to the Redskins as a result of a head-to-head collision with safety Madieu Williams. McCoy has a headache and remains in “Stage 1” of the league-mandated testing process, but his concussion does not appear to be as significant as Michael Vick‘s.
His team in a free-fall and his fate sealed, Andy Reid was asked if there was any scenario in which he would step down as head coach of the Eagles this season.
“I’m standing in front of the team and telling them, ‘These are the things we need to do, one of which is to continue to battle. And so I think that would be a cop-out,” said Reid. “That’s not how I see things. That’s not the way I’m wired. We’re going to keep battling and do it as a team. I’m not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other.”

Over the years, Andy Reid has often said it’s his responsibility to put players in positions to succeed.
The response generally elicits an eye-roll from fans and reporters alike.
But perhaps there is actually something to it. Or more accurately, perhaps a major reason why the Eagles have struggled to an 11-15 record in their last 26 games is because they have failed to acknowledge the limitations of some of their players. In a few key areas, Reid, Howie Roseman and company have wrongly assessed what players are capable of.

Yesterday, we shared some information on Oregon’s Chip Kelly. There’s an interesting debate among some very smart football people about whether he’ll be successful in the NFL.
Much of the conversation in recent weeks has centered around who will replace Andy Reid as the Eagles’ head coach at year’s end.
While that decision will certainly be significant, finding the right quarterback will probably determine when this franchise gets to the Super Bowl next.
As Tim pointed out yesterday, that will likely be the new coach’s call. It could be Nick Foles. It could be someone they draft or acquire via trade or free agency this offseason. It could even be Michael Vick. Who knows?
Below is a list of the coaches and quarterbacks who have appeared in the Super Bowl the last five years.
By the way Robert Griffin III tells it, the Eagles were hot for the quarterback heading into April’s draft.
“I met with the Eagles. Coach Reid told me they were very interested in me, that you never know what could happen,” said RGIII. “I really enjoyed my meeting with him but obviously things didn’t work out, so I’m here with the Redskins and I’m proud to be here.”
One name you’re going to hear mentioned quite a bit when the topic of NFL job openings is discussed in the coming months is Oregon’s Chip Kelly.
Kelly turned down a chance to coach the Bucs last offseason. But as we’ve documented in our special Coaching Buzz section, reports indicate that teams are going to go after him hard this time around, and odds seem pretty good that Kelly will make the leap.
As conversation around Philadelphia continues to center around who’s going to replace Andy Reid, it seems appropriate to bring you information on potential candidates from time to time.
So when we saw this clip from Kelly’s press conference earlier today, we thought we’d share it with you.
