Inside The Cove, an Immersive Hideaway Unlike Anything Else in the World
For a serene escape, some Philadelphia residents need not travel far. An out-of-this-world pool and spa club is opening in the heart of Northern Liberties this summer. The Cove at The Piazza provides the ultimate escape to Piazza residents—except it’s right outside their doors.
“The new vision for The Piazza introduces more landscape and creates a variety of welcoming public and program spaces,” says architect Jules Dingle of Digsau, the firm behind the project. The design inverts the familiar forms and sensations of urban life into something unexpected, calming and cleansing. Conceptually, the primary material of the new landscape is light. Abstract and unarticulated garden pavilions chart the sun’s path: warming some surfaces, shading others and projecting animated shadows. Water reflects rippled light onto the surrounding smooth surfaces.
The triangular garden pavilions and three spacious pools now subdivide The Piazza into these new peaceful places. The heated, sunken pools feature a series of swim-up areas to explore with grotto seating, partially submerged sun chaises and an oversized hot tub. Adjacent private kitchens fully equipped with grills, sinks and fridges accommodate al-fresco dining. Sun decks offer space to spread out, and heat lamps and fire pits turn the pavilions into an all-season amenity to enjoy year-round.
Translucent and reflective green glass divides the pavilions, visually doubling the scale of the gardens on the public side while providing privacy for pool guests on the other.
The reimagined courtyard complements a new indoor spa, as well as the recently reappointed Piazza apartments, just steps away. Inside, recovery-focused his-and-her spa facilities include high-pressure showers, dry saunas, stand-up light therapy and tanning and state-of-the-art hydromassage beds as well as a steam room and a reservable treatment room
The fitness center features top-of-the-line strength and cardio equipment: Peloton bikes, Mirror training, HIIT zone with Nexersys boxer, SkiErg, Woodway treadmill and Assault Airbike plus complimentary yoga, pilates and spin classes taught in a private studio.
