Longwood Opens New Beer Garden, Brew Lovers Rejoice
If there’s one thing we always make time for during the summer, it’s beer gardens. Seemingly a product of warm weather, they pop up all over town once summer rears its sunny head and they’re a welcomed addition to the Philly brew scene. The latest joint to generate buzz? Longwood Gardens’ recently opened beer garden.
Only open through October 31st, to coincide with Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience, the Longwood Gardens’ beer garden is an entertaining outdoor experience where guests can sit at picnic tables and enjoy craft libations purchased from the Beer Hut (it was crafted from reclaimed wood from a giant sequoia on the Longwood property!). Its hours are 6pm to 11pm (serving until 10:30pm), Wednesday through Saturday evenings, and guests must purchase a Nightscape ticket or have a member reservation to gain entry to the Gardens (more details about the dazzling nighttime show, here).
In conjunction with Victory Brewing Company, they’ve created two signature brews to commemorate the Gardens’ new addition. If you visit in August, prepare to sip Longwood Seasons: Summer Zest, a Saison beer brewed using lemons grown right in their gardens. Or, come September, drink Longwood Seasons: Autumn Harvest, a wheat ale punctuated by floral notes from Longwood-harvested honey.
In addition to beer, menu items include warm pretzels with Victory Mustard and bacon sour cream dip, BBQ pork nachos and a selection of salads and desserts. There are also bratwurst, pulled pork and all-beef frankfurter sandwich varieties.
To amp up your evening, schedule your visit to correspond with brew-centric events like “Gardens on Tap”, where, on September 16th, visitors can attend mixology night to learn about the horticulture behind their favorite cocktails. Or, on October 21, meet the brewer of Longwood Gardens’ signature beers. There are also live music offerings ranging from bluegrass to soul to acoustic experimental pop every Thursday from 7pm to 10 pm through October 31st (see the schedule here).
