Where to Go for a Spa Weekend Near Philly Right Now
Pretty much everyone could use a little pampering right now—especially if your last professional haircut took place more than six months ago and your work-from-home set-up has seriously messed with your back. The answer: taking a well-deserved getaway to a spa just outside of Philly. The 54,000-square-foot Spa Toccare at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City is open for a select number of guests with safety guidelines in place.
“Spas, salons and barbershops have been open in New Jersey for several weeks, but when you arrive expect some changes,” says Jennifer Aarons, Borgata’s Director of Recreation Services. “Masks are required at all times, except during specific services that are best performed without a mask. Our waiting areas have been redesigned to support social distancing guidelines.”
The Spa
With more than thirty treatment rooms, the spa has plenty of space for socially distant facials, massages and body wraps. Aarons recommends the signature massage, a 50- or 100-minute treatment that puts special attention on backaches with deep-tissue techniques and a pain-relieving cream. “In addition to a full-body Swedish-style massage, your feet are treated to an exfoliation and warm towels,” she says. Or try unwinding with an espresso limon body wrap that uses South American coffee oil, Italian lemon and Madagascan cinnamon for 50 minutes of zen bliss.
If a facial is in the cards, book a custom treatment specially formulated for you on the spot. “Your esthetician will choose among four specialized masks to target your personal skin care needs,” Aarons says. “For an extra boost, upgrade your facial with LED light therapy that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.” Any facial booked this month also comes with a complimentary skincare kit to take home.
The Barbershop and Salon
In addition to Spa Toccare’s private treatment rooms, The Barbershop at Borgata can fix at-home haircuts. Along with cuts, the shop also offers straight razor shaves, facials and executive manicures.
For the ladies, the full-service hair salon is once again providing cuts, color, styling and blowouts with Kerastase products. Manicures and pedicures are also officially back with partitions dividing each station.
The Hotel
Need a little extra time to unwind? Book an overnight stay at the hotel and you’ll also gain access to Borgata’s indoor pool and gardens. The Pump Room, a high-tech fitness center, is open for socially distant and masked workouts if you prefer to destress by working up a sweat. Take note: Locker rooms, hot tubs and steam rooms do remain closed at this time per state guidelines.
If you’re hesitant to book, rest easy that spa guests can reschedule appointments without penalty if they’re experiencing symptoms or suspect exposure to COVID-19. One thing is for certain: A day away sounds just about perfect right now.
