The Gayborhood Is Getting Its First Gay-Centric Loungewear Store
For as progressive as our city is, we’re seriously lacking in the gay-centric retail department. (Yes, that’s a department. Get with the times.) Anthony Noce, a Drexel grad and Philly-area native, noticed the void in our gay shopping climate and decided to do something about it. Enter: Nutz & Boltz, the city’s only underwear and loungewear store targeting the gay population of Philadelphia.
The new Gayborhood locale falls somewhere between porn store and stylish boutique, with the inventory skewing more towards comfy clothes to laze around in than sex toys. “Think of it as the men’s version of Victoria’s Secret,” he told me over the phone. “Philadelphia didn’t have a store specifically targeting gay men and what they want.”
While the store caters to the gay community, only about half the inventory is underwear and intimates. The other half of the store features everyday casual clothes, like cool tees you can wear to the gym (or bar) from brands like Marco Marco and Cheap Monday. Don’t miss the wall of neon swimwear or the fantastic onesie sized to fit a grown man.
You can get in on all the fun at tomorrow night’s launch party from 5 pm to 9 pm. There will be champagne, a 15 percent store-wide discount, a free gift with any purchase, and rumor has it, a surprise appearance by Satine Harlow. (As if we didn’t have you at “champagne.”)
The Details: 1220 Spruce Street, Midtown Village, 267-639-5958. Hours: Monday to Saturday 11am to 9pm and Sundays 12pm to 5pm.
