Retail Comings and Goings: Rikumo and Nich Boutique
In the hubbub of the huge Macy’s announcement (refresher: The company is closing 40 stores, including the Suburban Square location), some of the smaller retail shakeups went relatively unnoticed. Here are two you should be paying attention to: Rikumo, which just opened its doors on 12th and Walnut, and Nich Boutique, which is closing its West Chester shop at the end of the month.
First, the good news: Rikumo had its soft-opening on Friday, and judging by these first snaps from our resident pap HughE Dillon, things are looking pretty great. The Japanese import shop, formerly located in Callowhill, carries a range of sleek, smartly designed home goods, accessories and gift items, all arranged in a gorgeous concept store (which has its own tea bar and in-store library!). Visit soon. 1214 Walnut Street, 215-609-4972.
In other news, Nich Boutique is shuttering its West Chester location on January 31st. Fans of the well-priced womenswear shop needn’t despair; the Collegeville location will remain open. (“While we may be closing one location, we still have plans to expand in other ways – yes, that was a tease and I’ll leave it at that!” owner Kristy said in an email announcing the closure.)
All merchandise at the West Chester location is 40 percent off now, and starting this Thursday, January 14th, most furniture and store fixtures will be on sale, too. Gifts certificates and store credits issued in West Chester can be redeemed at both locations, and will be honored at the Collegeville store in February. The new West Chester hours are Thursday and Friday, 11am-7pm, Saturday, 11am-6pm, and Sunday, 12-5pm. 29 South High Street, West Chester, 610-436-8181.
