Retail News: Coach on Walnut Street Has Closed

Well, this is odd: The Coach location on Walnut Street has closed. I spoke with store manager Nicole this morning, who informed me that the store’s last day was Saturday. The staff is currently moving out inventory. I have a call out to the corporate press office for details. This closure comes on the heels of the brand’s seemingly last-ditch efforts at rebranding (think: less logo-mania, more classic, cool luxury).
The next store on the chopping block? Rumors have it that Talbots at 1719 Walnut Street will be shuttering next. If store reviews on Yelp are to be believed, it won’t come as a huge shock. A review posted by Annabelle K. on June 1, 2014, reads:
“It won’t be long before this Talbots location is closed. The place is always empty and I now understand why. The employees are extremely rude! There are always about 5 of them milling around and yet no one says hello or offers to help. When you finally do get assistance, they act as if you are putting them out. Shop at one of the many other stores near the square!”
I spoke to a Talbots employee this morning who said emphatically that they would not be closing. Calls to the corporate press office have not yet been returned.
