The Edit: 6 Ways to Wear Overalls

Plus, a step-by-step guide on how to wear 'em.

Before you start thinking I’m taking fashion cues from my kid cousin (see: backpack post from last week), hear me out; overalls are back in style, everyone! But before we dig into the playful new trend, we need to lay out some ground rules to avoid looking for a 90s Throwback Thursday photo from Insta.

First, pick a slouchy pair. While scouting for this post, I saw a few skinny-leg varieties. Not only are they wildly unflattering, but they also defeat the purpose of needing straps to hold them up. Second, cuff the hem. There’s a reason why almost every model pictured rocking a cropped hem. Whether you go for tomboy-chic vans or ladylike heel, your shoes will be highlighted with the cuff. Third, what you wear under them counts. A too-fitted tee will look like you’re ready for a play-date. Opt for something a little slouchy, cropped, or better yet, pair them with an oxford for a super-polished look. Now, go don your overalls like Gwyneth and Prince George.
