On the Market in the Poconos: Lakefront Lodge in White Heron Lake
This custom-built “builder’s special” overlooks the heart of a year-round resort community that has it all.
What do custom builders do when they want a home they can truly call their own?
Why, they build it, of course.
Which is what Bob Early, owner of Early Construction Co. in East Stroudsburg, did here. And as you look at the pictures not only of what’s in the house he built for himself but what it looks out on, I think you’ll agree that he couldn’t have done a better job of picking an ideal site for a home, then building an ideal home on it.
The White Heron Lake house for sale was designed by Schoonover and Vanderhoof, an East Stroudsburg architecture firm, and it’s very much in keeping with the rustic vernacular of many Poconos houses. But you won’t be roughing it here, no siree.
That’s because this house has all the modern creature comforts along with plenty of space for socially distant relaxation and entertaining, starting with the totally open main-floor living area.
The main floor’s design allows for easy flow both within it and between indoors and outdoors. French doors flanking the living-room fireplace open onto a large deck with an outdoor fireplace, while the dining room’s French doors connect to a sun porch with a radiant-heated stone floor.
And this is what you see from that deck:
White Heron Lake is the centerpiece of a year-round resort community that offers camping on an island in the middle of the lake, two pavilions for parties, community gardens, a shooting range, more than 500 acres of land for camping, hiking and hunting, and even a beach. (All it lacks is skiing, and for that, you can drive over to some of the nearby ski resorts.)
This house has its own boat dock on the lake too.
Back inside, in addition to its three bedrooms, it has two bonus rooms that could serve as home office space, a den or bedrooms.
A full finished basement contains plenty of room for recreation, and it has a walkout gravel patio leading to the backyard. There you’ll find a fire pit and playground in addition to the boat dock.
One of the three bedrooms is part of an in-law/au pair suite over the two-car garage. You could also use this to put up friends and family who’d like to make your place their vacation getaway for a while.
What’s more, White Heron Lake is close to East Stroudsburg, the commercial center of the Poconos, as well as in its school district.
The Earlys have decided to spend their later years in retirement somewhere else. Why they’d want to do that when they already live in a great place to retire mystifies me, but then again, they’ve lived here all their lives, and a change of pace can make those golden years even more golden. You, on the other hand, don’t live in the Poconos now. Consider this your change of pace, either for the summer, the winter or maybe even the whole year ’round.
