On the Market: Federal Townhouse With Garden in Society Hill
This handsome townhouse recently received a refreshingly simple yet elegant update. The makeover added some really nice extras as well.
If you’re in the market for one of those grand, elegant Society Hill houses, and you had contemplated this Society Hill Federal townhouse for sale on Third Street, we have bad news and good news for you.
The bad news: That house has been taken off the market. The good news: This one on Pine Street hasn’t.
Like the house on Third Street, this one got updated not too long ago. The redo this house got, however, is more contemporary and less Gilded Age.
Its color palette leans more towards soft pastels and muted darks as opposed to those bright Victorian colors.
The light fixtures, while still opulent, are not as grandiloquent, and chair rails replace wainscoting.
The furniture is definitely more modernist.
And the kitchen has much less ornate cabinetry and furnishings.
Some other differences: Its rear patio more closely resembles a lush garden than an open terrace, and stained-glass windows provide visual delight in some of this house’s spaces.
One of those spaces is the temperature-controlled wine cellar in the basement, which shares the floor with a spacious media/recreation room.
Like that Third Street house, this Society Hill Federal townhouse for sale is close to all the shopping, dining and visitor magnets nearby, including Head House Square, South Street, the Delaware riverfront and Zahav. Neighborhood shopping in the Fifth Street business district is even closer.
But if you, like me, prefer the simple to the ornate, you too will be glad you can still purchase this simply elegant residence.
