On the Market*: Rustic Bungalow in Coatesville
This thoroughly up-to-date bungalow has charm galore, and it could be yours. (*Maybe.)
Chester County’s other steel mill town, Coatesville, doesn’t have the buzzy, boozy cachet of Phoenixville, at least not yet. Plans to redevelop the downtown and the borough to date have all foundered amid controversy.
But that hasn’t stopped the locals from pressing on. And why shouldn’t they? After all, as they say, this community has “strong bones.”
Here’s an example of what that phrase means.
This cute-as-a-button bungalow on the east side of town has been beautifully maintained, sensitively updated and thoughtfully enhanced.
One of those enhancements appears in the photo above: the tin-roofed, Victorian-style front porch, which was added in 2015.
Just inside the front door, the living room got a makeover the following year. It maintains the style and character of this house for sale with its wide-plank ceiling, chair rail and hardwood floor.
All of the other main-floor rooms also remain true to this house’s form.
The eat-in kitchen, however, has been upgraded with the latest appliances and rustic cabinetry.
The family room behind the kitchen has the original stone rear wall for an accent, a tile floor and a gas stove.
The downstairs bedroom has a wall of custom cabinetry; upstairs you will find two bedrooms, including the master bedroom with its en suite bath.
The basement currently houses a beauty salon; it could also serve as a home office, additional living space or guest quarters, among other possible uses. A recently installed fireplace stove insert keeps the basement warm when it’s cold.
The basement entrance is shielded from the elements by the spacious deck off the main floor. Stairs lead from that deck to the hot tub in the backyard.
All the stonework has been repointed, and the house also has a new roof and tilt-out windows. This makes it not only picture-perfect but all ready for you to just move in.
If you get the chance to move in, that is. See “The Fine Print” below.
