On the Market: Dutch Colonial Row House in Queen Village
Its architectural style makes it stand out among Philly's traditional and Colonial row houses. It's something of a standout on the inside too.
Dutch Colonial houses can be found all over Philadephia and its suburbs. Usually, however, they’re either freestanding single-family houses or twins joined together to form what looks like a single huge house.
This house for sale across Carpenter Street from Shot Tower Playground heads in the other direction. It’s a cute little rowhouse, part of a pair on a block of Colonials. Dutch Colonial row houses are relatively rare in our rowhouse neighborhoods.
So are houses with two-car garages. This house has one of those too, with a rooftop deck overlooking the playground.
Inside, this house got a recent makeover that transformed it into an open, contemporary space with traditional decor accents. And don’t let its diminutive appearance on the outside fool you: this house has plenty of room inside.
You’ve seen layouts like this before: totally open main floor with kitchen at the back. A coat closet on one side breaks up the box and helps define the living and dining areas, and the powder room back by the kitchen also provides a visual break.
The exposed brick on the living room staircase adds visual appeal.
The kitchen is set off by a peninsula with bar seating that contains the microwave. It features traditional cabinetry and modern stainless-steel appliances.
The second floor contains two bedrooms, and the third occupies the entire third floor. The master on the rear of the second floor is particularly spacious and has a high vaulted ceiling.
It also has an attractive spa bath with large shower stall, soaking tub and painted exposed brick wall.
Its finished basement makes a great play space, media room or rec room.
And the patio in the back has an attractive brick-and-stucco surround and stairs leading to the roof deck over the garage. It’s a good candidate for one of those city grants to make it more environmentally friendly.
In addition to Shot Tower Playground, South Street, Head House Square and the Delaware riverfront are all close at hand. And with high bikeability and several SEPTA transit routes nearby, will you really need to store two cars in that garage?
