If you’re the type that loves to entertain, we have the house you’ve been looking for today.
This house for sale in West Mt. Airy was built for a couple who enjoy both company and their free time. Owners Amy and Brian Miner are busy professionals with two growing boys, and they wanted a house that would promote togetherness while still allowing everyone their space. They also wanted a house that would allow them to accommodate guests easily.
To get it, they turned to Sam Blake at Blake Development Company. If that name sounds familiar, it should: this is the builder who produced that expansive update of a classic Pennsylvania farmhouse that we featured here in February.
This time, Blake produced a center-hall Colonial with a modern twist similar to the one that farmhouse got.

Kitchen
The twist here is that this house’s heart is the expansive triple-threat space that spans the back of the main floor. It combines a family room, a casual dining area and a professional-grade kitchen in a single, free-flowing space.

Formal dining room

Formal living room

Study
Around it you will find arrayed the usual center-hall-Colonial accouterments: formal dining room, butler’s pantry and mudroom on one side, open foyer in the middle, living room and study on the other. These familiar spaces, however, all feature distinctly modern elements, most notably the lighting fixtures.

Second-floor center hall
The same applies upstairs, where the second-floor center hallway features a distinctive deconstructed classic lantern and the bedrooms all have their own personality.

Master bedroom

Master bathroom sauna
The master suite also offers an unusual extra. In addition to a spacious bedroom with a huge walk-in closet, you will find a sauna in the master bathroom.
There’s even more space above and below. On the third floor you’ll find a bonus room that could serve as a playroom, exercise room or guest bedroom, and the finished basement could accommodate a gym or a media room or a home theater.

Rear elevation showing fire pit, outdoor dining room and outdoor living room
Finally, the backyard is also designed for leisure and entertaining. It features a covered, heated patio connected to both the family room and the study, a fire pit and an outdoor dining and grilling area.
“We built this house with family and friends in mind,” say the Miners. “We wanted spaces where we could enjoy being together — cooking, soccer games in the backyard, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, drinks in the outdoor living room or simply watching the boys do their homework together at our farm table (instead of the desks in their rooms).
“We were excited for the opportunity to build here with Sam because the location allows us to remain connected to the city while being able to walk out our door to trails in the Wissahickon. It’s been great for anything from race training to family hikes with our dog.”
“This was an exceptional project for Blake Development,” says company President Blake. “The owners had a very specific vision and plan they wanted to achieve. Busy professionals with two growing boys made the layout of the core of the home a number one priority. Kitchen, family and informal dining areas flow beautifully, complemented with one of the best mudroom/pantry spaces we’ve ever done. From concept to drawings to construction, we worked closely together. Their high attention to detail resulted in a home suited perfectly for them.”
And if you’re looking for this level of detail, this house for sale should suit you perfectly too.
