On the Market: Updated Victorian in Moylan
Close to Media and close to perfect, this handsome Victorian house for sale is ready for you to move in and (re)make it your own.
Those packaged “Helper” main dish mixes you find at your supermarket usually include suggestions for altering the basic recipe so that you can “make this your own.”
In keeping with the spirit of those products, but working with better base ingredients, we offer you some suggestions we will call “Victorian Helper” for this handsome, well-kept home.
In the photos above and below you see the base ingredients. The starter is a dignified 1900 Victorian house for sale in Moylan, on the outskirts of Media. The original house got a large addition tacked onto its back some 20-odd years after it was built, so you have a precedent for remixing it if you wish. If you don’t, this beauty is ready to use as is, but here are our suggested modifications:
Since it was built with forced-air heating to begin with, you can upgrade its climate-control system, for instance. (Currently, wall units provide cooling, and ceiling fans in almost every room help them along. The fireplaces in the main-floor rooms are purely decorative.)
Or you might want to replace the wall-to-wall carpets in the living room and family room and replace them with hardwood flooring. (It might even be the case that the original hardwood flooring survives under the carpet and can be restored.) The living room currently serves as a playroom; the family room has a wall of windows with French doors that lead out onto a side deck, one of the recent additions made by the current owner.
Another suggested mix-in: substitute higher-grade windows and French doors that blend in better with the preserved original historic windows for the ones currently in place.
The spacious, well-equipped kitchen also incorporates a dining area large enough to serve as a dining room. It’s fine as it is, or you could install hardwood floors and a fancier chandelier in the dining area and turn it into a quasi-formal dining room.
There’s no need to touch the bathrooms — they’ve all been updated recently in a historically sensitive manner. The third-floor bathroom, which had been roughed in, was finished in the same way.
The bedrooms are likewise all in great shape, and they’re painted in a panoply of bright colors that actual Victorians would love. The potential exists, however, for you to combine two of them with one of the two second-floor bathrooms to form a spacious master suite.
The side yard has plenty of room for relaxation and recreation. It’s currently outfitted for kids’ play, but you can redo it however you want.
And since this house for sale has two staircases, the potential for creating an in-law suite also exists.
So: how will you serve this tasty Victorian dish to your family and guests?
