On the Market: Hidden Rowhouse with Large Yard in Fishtown
This house for sale, another Red Oak Development gem, would get lost amidst the bigger rowhouses that surround it if it weren't such a standout.

Regular readers of this department should know by now the high regard its section editor holds towards Red Oak Development. The Fishtown builder fabricates most of the structural elements it uses in its new and rebuilt houses in-house and builds to a high standard of quality and originality of style.
Here’s yet another modest reminder of what makes these guys so praiseworthy. They took this afterthought of a rowhouse on an ordinary Fishtown block and turned it into something extraordinary.

Living room
Blink and you’ll miss this house for sale because it sits several feet back from the sidewalk. It looks as though it was built as an attachment to the house next door to its west, but it’s actually a freestanding house of its own.

Dining room and kitchen
And what a house! The open main floor has painted exposed brick in its living room and a floating steel staircase — made in-house by Red Oak, of course — as an exclamation point.

Kitchen
Its kitchen also displays signs of Red Oak’s industrial-chic aesthetic in its steely blue cabinetry and metal island with bar seating.

Master bedroom
The master bedroom is at the front of the second floor. It has a vaulted ceiling and more exposed brick. In the back is a second bedroom with a Juliet balcony overlooking the ample backyard.

Bathroom
In between the two is a luxurious bathroom with a jetted tub and walk-in shower.

Basement rec room
Down below you’ll find a rec room, a full bath and a third bedroom. Both rooms have direct access to the outside: from the rec room, stairs lead up to the front yard, and on the other side of the bedroom’s sliding glass door is a light well with a spiral staircase leading up to the backyard.

Backyard
That backyard has plenty of room for outdoor entertaining and a pizza oven installed by a previous owner.
And when you want to get out for entertainment, shopping or whatever, you’ll find plenty of options all a short walk away. Sergeant York, a new neighborhood bar, is three blocks away, and on your way there, you’ll cross Frankford Avenue, which is lined with many other great places to eat, drink and shop. York-Dauphin station on the Market-Frankford Line lies three blocks away in the opposite direction.
