I begin today’s featured house for sale post with an admonishment.
Shame on the listing agents for not mentioning the architect who designed this Chadds Ford house-like-no-other in their description of it.

Upon close inspection, I’m sure that whoever it was channeled Frank Lloyd Wright before getting down to drafting.
This symphony in stone, wood and glass is simply the most astonishing house I’ve run across in a year of listings.

“Simply elegant” is the best phrase I can use to describe it, yet it insufficiently captures the awesomeness of its design and layout.

It invites both contemplation and engagement in its interplay of interior and exterior spaces.
It offers plenty of room to entertain multitudes yet also lets you enjoy solitude. It has both formal and informal dining spaces, a formal living room and an informal family room, and a restaurant-quality kitchen. It also has a gym, a great room and a spa-like bath near both on its lower floor.
It’s equipped with all sorts of luxurious features, original fixtures, and top-grade appliances.

But there are a few things the pictures can’t tell you. One is that its many bedrooms are arranged so that one of them, the one over the garage, makes a good in-law or au pair suite.
Another is its location. A small stream that feeds the Brandywine Creek runs through its lot. It’s not that far from Route 1, but far enough away that you don’t have to worry about anything intruding on your reverie.
