Main Line Elegance in Media for $1.65M
Believe it or not, this loaded Colonial near Springton Lake was built as a model home for its development. Sure looks custom to us.
Some concepts we still have a hard time wrapping our brains around include nested gables and million-dollar homes near Media.
Last concept first: Media, as you all should know by now, is “Everybody’s Hometown.” “Hometown” conjures up in our minds an everyday, amiable, just-folks place. But we guess “everybody” includes grandees too, because after all, they also need places to live. If they’re grand enough, they get to live in homes like this one.
Now on to the nested gables. These architectural affectations were unknown prior to 1990 or thereabouts. Go back through your traditional building styles, find homes predating the 1980s, and we guarantee you will find none. They strike us as prime McMansion markers, and builders respectful of tradition should have no business messing with them if they’re putting up homes as faithful to those traditions as this handsome center-hall Colonial is.
But here we are. This home has one. Just mentally crop it out of the photo and proceed with us as we take you through one of the most spectacular model homes we’ve ever seen.
That’s right, this was built as a model home for the Water Mill subdivision, a collection of luxury homes on Springton Lake just above Media. The model was called the “Halesworth,” designed by Haller & Moser and built by Vaughan & Sautter (now Vaughan Building Company).
That last firm is probably the best home builder in the region, and they don’t skimp on quality or attention to detail. That should be abundantly clear in the photos. This home displays all the refined elegance of the best center-hall Colonials while adapting the idiom to modern tastes, as in the case of the two-story-high foyer.
Put simply, this home offers you the best of everything. Top-drawer appliances in the kitchens, both indoor and outdoor. Spaces for both formal and casual entertaining.
A luxurious owner’s suite. An elegant library whose trim and built-ins come from a unique hybrid of two eucalyptus trees.
And a ton of nice extras: a Hifi House-outfitted home theater with the ambience of a swanky supper club. A game room with full bar and a 1,500-bottle, temperature-controlled wine cellar off that game room. And a sauna.
And all this is right next to Springton Lake and just minutes from the Blue Route and the heart of Media.
For all this, a nested gable is a small price to pay.
