What $500K Will Buy You in Haverford
Haverford may not be quite as fancy as its neighboring Main Line townships on either side, Radnor and Lower Merion, but it shares their reputation for a high quality of life and good schools.
Home prices in ZIP code 19041 reflect that: $500,000 is a bit below the current median sale price, which hovers in the $600s. That means that homes selling in the $500,000 range are a step up from “starter homes.” These three homes, however, are worth considering for starters:
237 W. Montgomery Ave. #3E (above) | 2 beds, 2 full, 1 half baths, $499,000
Step through the main entrance of this 1920 Colonial Revival condo building, take the elevator up to the penthouse, open the door, walk in, and watch your jaw drop as you scope out the dramatic living spaces in this bi-level unit. The refinished maple floors sparkle in the abundant light, and the high walls are perfect for showing off your art collection. There’s a double-sided fireplace shared by the living and dining rooms and a loft space currently used as an office overlooking the living room. The kitchen is in very good shape and there’s even an outdoor space where you could add a roof deck.

15 Fawn Lane | 3 beds, 1 full, 1 half baths, 1,930 square feet, $495,000
This cute stone Colonial was built in 1930 as the carriage house on the estate of Autocar Company founder Louis Clarke. On the inside, you’ll find a welcoming open-plan main floor with a stone fireplace that’s been converted to gas, terra cotta tile floor and updated kitchen. This home is ideally suited for entertaining, with a lovely landscaped rear yard and stone patio. Large windows and a skylight in the entrance atrium let in plenty of natural light, and the three bedrooms upstairs offer plenty of space for a personal retreat.

116 Buck Lane | 4 beds, 2 baths, 1,970 square feet, $499,900
Even though its roof, electrical system and guts are all new, and its kitchen has been recently updated, this home is definitely a “handyman special.” That’s because it has a workshop in its basement where you can do your own remodeling and upgrading as you see fit. Not that there’s much remodeling to do, though, because this home’s current owner has taken very good care of it. The kitchen and family room have radiant heated floors, so you can just kick off your shoes and enjoy the warmth in the wintertime, and the yard is fully sprinklered to make maintenance a breeze. Power outages won’t interrupt your life either, because there’s a generator included in the deal.
This home’s price was reduced by $15,000 on May 21.
