Main Line Monday: Mid-Century Modern Charmer in Penn Valley Gets Price Cut
It’s been approximately one year, give or take a week or so, since this mid-century modern classic in Penn Valley caught our eye. Designed circa 1958 by Arthur L. Miller, the architect owned the picturesque house for several years until selling it to Trevor and Issa Dixon, its latest owners, some eight years ago. The Dixons were enamored with it.
“It’s my dream house, and I feel like you only have one,” Issa told Philly.com last December, shortly after she and Trevor had listed their home on the market for $925,000. Cloistered on a scenic wooded plot that’s less than three acres, the house is quite a find. For one, Miller used on-site materials to design several of the home’s interior and exterior features:
Miller quarried stone on the land to use on the exterior, and used oak trees from the property for the floors inside.
“I had never seen anything like that stone and the way that it is laid,” Issa said. “It’s just immaculate.”
According to the Philly.com, the Dixons took it upon themselves to restore and expand the house, which had been in need of some TLC, and even redesigned it to have an open floor plan with new central kitchen, roof, systems, and windows.
After being removed from the market this past summer, the home has been re-listed for $875,000. Specs and photos below.
