City House of the Week: Pristine Townhouse in Washington Square West
We could tell you how the best of this home is in its individual details, a statement that would not be untrue since the wide-planked floors, high ceilings and fireplace mantle are wholly pleasing to the eye. The Colonial-era wood staircase in particular is a personal favorite, especially since it has a distinct architectural element and windows overlooking the garden.
However, we’d be lying if we didn’t state the truth in our hearts: the impeccable, yet simple, master suite trumps everything else in the already delightful home.
In addition to encompassing a pristine sleeping quarter with vaulted ceiling and pine floors, it has a newly renovated master bathroom, walk-in closet and–wait for it–a bookshelf staircase that leads to a library loft, currently used as a home office. The bedroom also has a working fireplace, which the current owner says she has never used.
That room is on the third floor, but there are two more bedrooms and another new bathroom on the second level. The kitchen is on the first level, right before the living room, and has slate flooring, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Laundry and mechanicals can be found in the basement.
