Crazy-Special Walgreen’s at Old Borders on Broad Street Will Open in July

Philly Post contributor HughE Dillon has long been interested in the fate of the old Borders on Broad Street since it closed, but he found, in his reporting, that no one really wanted it due to the lack of parking, the weird mezzanine and the steep escalators. What business gets enough foot traffic to not care about parking? A chain drugstore, of course, though this is far from your typical chain drugstore.

Some of the more salient differences with, say, the CVS down the street is that this Walgreen’s will have:

1. A cafe with gourmet coffee and pastries; a juice bar; a sushi bar; and cafe seating
2. A nail and hair salon
3. A medical clinic with OTC medications and first aid

Dillon hears the store will open in July, but until then the windows are covered with the words “PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM” AND “LOVE.”

How soon will it be before we all forget there was ever a bookstore there? Actually, how soon will it be before we all forget what books are?
