These Are the 8 Registry Trends You Need to Know for 2016

Wedding registries have certainly evolved over time, shifting from your traditional kitchen and bedroom must-haves to creative wish lists that are customized for the couple and their lifestyle. Over the past few years, blenders and fine china have been replaced by cash funds and honeymoon experiences—though it seems home goods are making a bit of a resurgence in 2016.
According to this list of the eight biggest registry trends for this year, while experiences and charity donations continue to be popular choices, so are retro appliances, grilling equipment, bar carts, and all of the accoutrements you need to serve your favorite wines and cheeses (think stemware, slate cheese boards and stainless-steel knives).
“When it comes to traditional registry gifts, couples nowadays gravitate towards anything based around cocktails, coffee and casual Happy Hour-type entertaining,” says Bloomingdale’s registry supervisor Leslle Sarego, who agrees with this year’s lineup of trends. “They also respond to multi-purpose items, like a gravy boat that can be used as a serving dish for mixed olives or nuts, that seem more fun, practical and conducive to small apartment living.”
In terms of design, Sarego says 2016 is all about metallics and mixed materials. “Wood and metal serving pieces and/or wood and glass barware items are great choices because they can easily blend into any decor style; they’re somewhat neutral so if the couple is not sure of their taste or how they’re going to decorate in five years, chances are these items will work with whatever they decide on.”
