Who doesn’t love a classic Philadelphia wedding? Set in Cescaphe’s largest venue with an elegant blush-and-white color scheme, this pretty-in-pink Vie wedding—photographed by Dyanna LaMora— includes everything we love about weddings in the city, including portraits on the median in front of City Hall.
Beth Miskovsky and Michael Penna have mutual friend Rob to thank for their union. New to Philly, Beth invited her old University of Scranton friend over one night, and his childhood friend Michael tagged along.
“It was love at first sight when Beth walked down the stairs,” remembers Mike, who requested a first date (dinner at NoLibs eatery North Third followed by a movie) not long after. The rest, as they say, is history.
Five years later, the couple was vacationing in Kauai. The last night of the trip coincided with Beth’s birthday, and Mike was, according to his now-wife, “very eager” to get her to Poipu Beach for sunset. Upon arrival, Mike walked her towards the water and asked, “What could be better than being in Hawaii on your birthday?”
“I don’t think it can get better than this,” Beth remembers saying.
“I can think of one thing,” Mike replied, and promptly dropped to one knee.
They married a year-and-a-half later on a clear June day. (The afternoon called for 90 percent rain, and no one was more thrilled than the bride that the weather held up!) After exchanging vows at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Logan Square, the pair posed for only-in-Philly portraits at the nearby Swann Memorial fountain and the median in front of City Hall, then headed to Cescaphe’s Vie in Spring Garden for an elegant pink-and-white-reception. Arrangements of orchids, ranunculus, peonies and garden roses topped the mirrored tables, where the evening’s 260 guests dined on their choice of filet mignon, chilean sea bass, and Italian chicken.
The pair danced to Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend” for their first dance, and later cut into a four-tier vanilla, chocolate and carrot cake. They honeymooned in Dubai and the Seychelles, and currently live in South Philly, where Michael is an accountant and Beth is an occupational therapist.
