This Adventure-Loving Jersey Couple Hosted a Travel-Themed Wedding
Globes, maps and suitcases dominated the decor.
For Amanda Agosto and Luis Grullon, an adventure-loving pair hailing from Maple Shade, New Jersey, hosting a travel-themed celebration of their love seemed like a total no-brainer. The glitzy travel wedding of their dreams was brought to life in the atrium of The Curtis Center with the help of Cescaphe, and you can see the jet-setting for yourself in these shots captured by Pictures by Todd.
It was adventure from the very start for Amanda and Luis. The pair first met during a night out with friends when Luis saved Amanda from an unwanted pursuer and swept her away for a dance. Their dance led to a pleasant chat, during which the pair realized that they actually had a lot in common — especially when it came to travel. At the end of the night, Luis walked Amanda to her car only to realize that he was unable to re-enter the club. Amanda welcomed him to wait in the warmth of her car until his friends decided to leave the club. This, according to the couple, was adventure number one in their relationship.
Amanda and Luis’s first date naturally included another adventure. The pair made plans to meet for dinner in New Jersey after Amanda got off of work — a date Luis nearly missed due to car trouble, but fortunately made it. After the pair emerged from dinner, they noticed that it had snowed quite a few inches while they were inside, leaving them stranded in a snowed-in parking lot.
After two years of dating, the pair decided to take a trip to Costa Rica to celebrate Amanda’s birthday. At this point, Amanda was strongly hinting that it was time for them get engaged, but Luis would always reply with “It’s too soon.” While in Costa Rica enjoying an island getaway, the couple had set up a zip-lining excursion through the rain forest. When Amanda arrived to the sixth platform of the course, Luis was waiting there on one knee to ask Amanda to be his wife.
One year later, on August 11, 2017, Luis and Amanda exchanged vows at the beautiful St. Peter the Apostle Church in Northern Liberties. Following their official union, Luis and Amanda’s guests flooded The Curtis Center in Washington Square West for a travel-themed celebration.
Globes and maps were big aspects of the reception’s travel decor. A real globe served as the centerpiece for every other table and a bold, globe-shaped ice sculpture welcomed their guests to cocktail hour. Escort cards were printed on mini maps and displayed on a suitcase-adorned table, and the couple’s gold cake featured a map design and a plane in flight.
Luis and Amanda swayed to “Llegaste Tu” by Luis Fonsi for their first dance as man and wife. In further nod to the couple’s travel theme, their Johnny Walked-based signature cocktail was dubbed “The Jetlag.” For their first official adventure as man and wife, they began their honeymoon in Aruba and ended it in Paris.
