The ring: My ring has a radiant-cut diamond set in platinum with a double diamond eternity band. I am absolutely in love with it, and find myself staring at it most days. Sam and I talked about getting engaged for months and I basically told him exactly what I wanted (no shame in my game). If it’s going to be forever … I want to love it forever!
In my research, I came across jewelry designer Steven Kirch, who is based in New York, and fell in love with his work. He did a fabulous job catering to our needs and the ring is perfect in my eyes!
The proposal: Growing up, I was super close with my grandparents. They helped raise me and become the person who I am today. Recently, for their 70th anniversary, we had a family get-together at their house, where I spent most of my childhood. We were all gathered around the table, when my cousin told me he was going to propose to his girlfriend and showed me a picture of the ring. I was excited for him, but at the same time couldn’t help but wonder if Sam was ever going to propose to me! (It had been months since we picked out the ring and was starting to think he was getting cold feet.)
At that moment I heard Sam say, “I can’t have Todd beat me to the punch!” He got down on one knee, then turned to my grandfather and said, “I want to marry your granddaughter.” He then turn to me, a blubbering mess, and told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him (or at least I think that is what he said … I feel like I blacked out).
My family had no clue it was happening so it was a surprise to them, too! We then shared the news with my grandmother, who suffers from dementia, and she smiled in excitement and showed me her ring. While some aspects of her suffering from dementia is sad, that day was full of joy and we got to re-live the excitement over and over together. It was the best day of my life and I hope that one day we will celebrate our 70th anniversary just like Babe and Pete!
The band: We will most likely go back to Steven for our wedding bands; his work is impeccable. I would love a small single band with diamonds to match my engagement ring.
