Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Our Engagement Anniversary!
A year and five days ago, Sean asked me a question that changed my life: “Will you marry me?”
And while there are some obvious changes that will come along with the wedding (new marital status, new last name, new ring!) there have been a lot of unexpected things that have happened since last May 12th. I guess what I’m trying to say is: a lot can happen in a year!
Sean and I reflected on that this past Sunday as we remembered the special day we had one year ago. As the last 365 days have flown by, Sean and I have planned our own wedding, saw four of our closest friends get engaged, watched two friends marry on the beach in St. Thomas, learned we are going to be aunt and uncle to a second niece, bought and began to renovate our first house, trained for and ran Broad Street, and talked (a lot) about getting a dog. It’s been a whirlwind year, to say the least, but I wouldn’t trade any of it!
What’s kept us the busiest, aside from wedding planning, has been our new adventure as homeowners. The house we bought is a total fixer-upper, and was in despite need of a facelift. So, in all our free time (what free-time?) just weeks before our wedding, Sean and I (mostly Sean, to his credit) have been hanging out at Cherry Island (aka: the dump) getting rid of the old to make way for the new. Our contractor started his work this week and by July we should have a brand new kitchen, updated bathrooms, new flooring and new appliances. We’ll also get to move into the house with new kitchen-stuff (thanks to our wonderfully generous family and friends) Lot’s of “new” for our life as newlyweds!
So it’s been a somewhat stressful-mostly awesome past year, but I’ll tell you what, we are really earning our honeymoon!
Have you and your groom ever reflected on how your lives have changed since the day you got engaged?
