When evaluating the state of the Eagles’ offensive line right now, it’s important to manage expectations.
A couple weeks ago, the coaches approached the Cardinals game assuming the offense would be just fine operating as it usually does. They tried little things to help Demetress Bell and Dallas Reynolds, who were making their first starts of the season. But overall, Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg believed this offense could still score points by hitting on big plays down the field in the passing game.
After a 27-6 loss, though, it appears they’ve made some significant changes the past two weeks.

In 2011, Jason Kelce looked like someone who was made to play for Howard Mudd.
Tucked away behind the Eagles’ mistakes in the 2011 draft was the selection of Kelce, a sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati. As a rookie, he caught Mudd’s eye and stole the starting job from Jamaal Jackson on the practice fields at Lehigh. Kelce’s athleticism was exactly what Mudd wanted out of his center, and the rookie showed steady improvement, leading many observers to project a Pro Bowl campaign for him in 2012.
But in the team’s second game against the Ravens, Kelce suffered a torn MCL and ACL in his right knee, ending his season. Now, with Mudd retiring and Andy Reid gone, Kelce is waiting to find out what scheme the Eagles will be running in 2013.

The Eagles worked out Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson on Friday, a league source confirmed.
The 6-6, 303-pound Texas native was an all-state quarterback in high school and played the position some in junior college as well. He started out in Oklahoma as a tight end and defensive end before eventually transitioning to tackle. He played on the right side in 2011 and was primarily a left tackle last year, starting all but two games there.
Johnson ran a 4.72 40 at the Combine.
