The City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) just released lists of all of the local businesses that have received money from the Small Business Relief Fund, set up to combat the financial devastation wrought by the coronavirus.
According to the city, there were more than 7,000 applicants to Philadelphia’s coronavirus relief fund, and 2,083 small businesses have been selected to receive money. The lists released by the city on Thursday include only businesses that have finalized their agreements with the city. More will be announced once more agreements are finalized.
The coronavirus relief fund money falls into three categories:
- Microenterprise Grants of up to $5,000 per business
- Small Business Grants of up to $25,000 per business
- Business Loans of up to $100,000 per business
The city says that 56 percent of the business selected are located in low-to-moderate income census tracts. Minority-owned businesses accounted for 60 percent of the awards and woman-owned businesses 32 percent, based on self-reported information in the applications, but the city notes that 21 percent of business owners selected did not provide demographic information.
This is not a first-come, first-served model. The city says decisions were made based on a variety of factors, including the amount of losses that a business experienced as a result of COVID-19 and whether the business is located in a high poverty area.
Below, the three lists of recipients. Note that in a small number of cases, the loans or grants have been finalized in the last few days, so the recipients may not have actually received the funds yet.
