The Best Thing That Happened This Week: Welcome to Bryce Harper Town

Did anyone ever have a better week than he did?

So let’s say you’re Bryce Harper. (You should be so lucky.) You’re 26 years old. You just signed a $330 million 13-year contract. You help sweep the Braves in the weekend’s opening series. On Monday, you announce on Instagram in the MOST Philly way imaginable that you and wife Kayla are having a baby boy. (That same day, the Inquirer’s Bob Brookover gives the world a majestic Bryce-ography.) On Tuesday, just before you make your first trip back to your old home, Nationals Park, the mayor of D.C. — THE MAYOR! — drags you. Nats fans who once worshipped you deface your jerseys. Before the game, there’s a video tribute to you — traditionally a time for warm fuzzies. You, however, are relentlessly booed. You answer by going three-for-five with a towering eighth-inning HR that you cap off with an epic bat flip. Oh, and you coolly salute the Phils fans who trekked south to see the game. Thanks, MLB.com, for this excellent summation of what you called “The Greatest Revenge Game in MLB History.” We concur. And we can’t wait to see what the rest of this season (not to mention the next 12!) brings.
