Police Investigating Possible Arson at Montgomery County School
Officials believe someone set fire to a shed located just 80 feet from the Center School in Abington, causing roughly $5,000 in damage.
Police in Montgomery County are investigating a potential arson at the Center School in Abington.
The Abington Police Department believes that a person or multiple people set fire to a storage shed located just 80 feet from the school building at 2450 Hamilton Avenue.
Officials were dispatched to the property shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday for a report of smoke in the area. They found the shed “fully engulfed in flames.” Both the unit and approximately $5,000 worth of school furniture inside were completely destroyed.
Police also checked the actual school and discovered that someone had thrown a brick through one of its windows. Damage to the window is estimated at $500.
It appears that the fire at the shed was intentionally set. No arrests have been made.
The incident is being investigated by the Abington Police Detective Division, the Abington Township Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Investigators. Anyone with information is asked to call the Abington Township Police Department’s Detective Division at 267-536-1100.
The Center School, which was founded in 1989, aims to provide children with learning disabilities with an individualized education.
