Police: 2 Arrested After Hundreds of Teens Gather at Germantown Rec Center
A barbecue at an East Germantown recreation center became hectic on Sunday night when hundreds of teenagers gathered at the location.
The event took place at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center, at 1100 East Chelten Ave., where a similar scene broke out last month. Officers say two teens were arrested last night for throwing rocks and bottles at police vehicles.
The barbecue began around 6 p.m. Tensions rose around 9 p.m., when teens began forming larger groups. Police reportedly used helicopters to survey the area.

At least one officer was hit by a bottle but was not injured, according to NBC10. Two police vehicles were reportedly vandalized.
Police said the teens were charged with failure to disperse and criminal mischief.
An event at the same recreation center drew a large police presence on July 17th, when hundreds of teens gathered and reportedly jumped on top of cars, threw glass bottles and surrounded officers’ vehicles.
Police chose not to arrest anyone at the event in July in order to prevent the situation from escalating.
