How to Get a Free Donut (or Two) on Friday
If you’re a big fan of nonsensical food holidays (or if you just like donuts, as most of us do), you’re in luck: tomorrow is National Donut Day.
That means donut deals and freebies.
To start, Philly-favorite Federal Donuts will roll out a special menu comprised of the store’s most popular flavors, including lemon meringue, chocolate eclair, purple rain, blueberry mascarpone, cookies and cream and marshmallow marshmallow. Manager Brien Murphy said FedNuts will be very “generous” with their donuts and offer free samples all day, though he wouldn’t promise that everyone who walks through the door will get a freebie. (But let’s just say you might order one donut and leave with two.)
Krispy Kreme will give you your favorite donut – any donut – for free, while supplies last. The two storefronts closest to Philly are in Havertown and Collingswood, N.J.
At Dunkin Donuts, you can get a free donut with the purchase of any drink (so not a completely free donut). The store will offer two new varieties: Vanilla Cake Batter Donut and Dunkin’ Donuts Sprinkles Donut.
If you’re near a Cumberland Farms tomorrow, you can also get a free(ish) donut with the purchase of a Cumberland Farms coffee or a Chill Zone beverage.
Unlike other food holidays, National Donut Day has some valid history: it stems back to 1938, when the Salvation Army’s “Doughnut Girls” started giving soldiers free coffee and donuts.
