LGBTQ Event of the Week: Can I Get a Side of Nug-It With That?
For its wide selection of musical performances and its focus on body positivity, this week’s LGBTQ Event of the Week is Landon Blake and John Burd’s Can I Get a Side of Nug-It With That? Billed as serving audience members “sexy, hilarious boylesque, drag, and burlesque,” it’s no wonder the showcase has thrived over the years.
“We provide a space for performers in a non-stressful atmosphere, and the show spreads a message of body positivity,” said co-producer Landon Blake. Blake, who also goes by the stage name “Chikn Nug-It,” does “not hold back” when it comes to getting the crowd going. “By the end of the show, I am in a jockstrap or some type of revealing undergarment,” he adds. “I like to use my body image to show people that it is OK to be proud of your body type. I was told by an audience member once that I influenced him to go shirtless at the beach.”
The event features an all-star cast of local drag performers and guests including Donna Ria, Vanessa Sterling, and Nikki Malicious. Guests can also expect a debut performance by Mauve and a special preshow premiering Chikn Nug-It’s episode of Colour in Art TV, hosted and created by Terrell Green. It all goes down this Saturday at 7 p.m. at L’Etage, which is the 2016 Best of Philly’s pick for Best Dance Party.
