The DNC Host Committee’s “Donkeys Around Town” Scavenger Hunt Officially Begins
The Philadelphia DNC Host Committee officially launched its “Donkeys Around Town” Scavenger Hunt today at Duross & Langel, where the New Jersey and South Carolina donkeys sit in the storefront.
Host Committee Chair and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell spoke at the launch, noting that the scavenger hunt has been a bigger hit than he thought it would be.
“Today,” Rendell said, “We’re getting down to serious donkey business.”
The scavenger hunt uses the app “Scavify” which lays out where each donkey is located throughout the city. For each donkey, there is a specific question to be answered or task that needs to be completed before you can gain points. For example, at the New Jersey donkey, the app asks players to identify the rollercoaster on the donkey. At the South Carolina donkey, you have to check in “in front of the home of Philly’s best soap makers.”
For each of the 57 total tasks you can complete, 10 points are added to your overall score. Beginning on July 21st, users can redeem their prizes at the Independence Visitor Center. The more points you have, the bigger the prize. The prize tiers, according to a press release from the Host Committee, are:
- 50 points (5 donkeys): Family fun pack, including tickets to Philadelphia’s most popular museums, tours, attractions, and eateries.
- 150 points (15 donkeys): Choice of either an official “Donkeys Around Town” t-shirt or commemorative Visit Philadelphia magnetic photo frame.
- 300 points (30 donkeys): Complimentary cheesesteak from Sonny’s Famous Cheesesteaks as well as entrance into a Grand Prize raffle for either a two-night stay at the Hyatt at the Bellevue and gift cards to local restaurants for each night OR the “Ultimate Philadelphia Sports Experience” which includes two tickets of a game during the 2016-17 season of each of Philadelphia’s major sports teams.
- 310-570 points (31-57 donkeys): Extra entry into the Grand Prize raffle.
“’Donkeys Around Town’ is a great way to explore different parts of our city and make the Convention a fun experience for everyone,” Rendell said. “The program is already wildly successful, with more and more photos and posts popping up on social media from Philadelphians and visitors every day, and we are thrilled that people are so excited about them.” The scavenger hunt will make the program even more fun, and I hope Convention guests and residents download the app and find as many donkeys as they can for [these] great prizes.”
You can download the app through Apple’s App Store, Google Play, by visiting www.scavify.com/dnc, or by texting DONKEY to 55000. The app is compatible with both the iPhone and Android.
